Certificate for Security Guards

Course Aims

Provide the learner with the basic knowledge and understanding required to ensure the provision of a professional level of service as a security guard.
Develop the learner’s understanding of the roles and responsibilities of security officers working in the private security industry and the relevance of regulations within which they must operate.
Develop the learner’s knowledge of health and safety in the work place including awareness of emergency procedures.
Enable the learner to implement effective methods of communication and reporting.
Provide the learner with knowledge of work systems and procedures.
Develop the learner’s abilities to recognise, defuse and resolve conflict situations.

Who should attend

The EDI Level 2 Certificate for Security Guards is a programme designed to meet the needs of learners requiring a qualification enabling the application for an SIA licence for security guarding
Progression
Opportunities for further learning and/or qualifications could include:
• Level 2 NVQ in Providing Security Services
• Level 3 NVQ in Security Management (Supervisors)
• EDI Level 3 Certificate in Security Keyholding and Alarm Response
Plus other qualifications suitable for licensing in associated job roles:
• EDI Level 2 Certificate for CCTV Operatives (PSS)
• Level 2 Award in Vehicle Immobilisation Structure

  • Two mandatory units - details of learning Outcomes
  • Unit 01 Roles and Responsibilities of Security Guards
  • LO1: Explain the role of security guards in the security industry
  • LO2: Describe the day-to-day activities of security guards
  • LO3: Apply H & S responsibilities within the role of security guards
  • LO4: Describe communication methods used by security guards
  • LO5: Understand and apply the law to the role of a security guard
  • Unit 02 Conflict Management for Security Guards
  • LO1: Recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
  • LO2: Understand ways of defusing and resolving conflict
  • LO3: Describe how to respond to conflict situations

Qualification

EDI Level 2 Certificate for Security Guards

Assessment

All units are assessed externally through a multiple choice test that is set, marked and moderated by the Awarding Body.
